Angels descended upon the earth and blessed us with musik for noone to get upset about. then they took their happy songs and threw 'em in a blenda' and made mush outta' it, 'til finally there was nothing left but a big ball of bumpin' ass sounds and ball shakin' rhythm. Lining up with returning groovy Gypsy act, Yesterday's Gravy, from Massachussetts, this is gonna be a hot show.

16-Jan sat DON'T miss the MONTHLY BELLYDANCE SHOWCASE, featuring the lovely and talented dancers from Vatra Gitana, Wilmington's Premier Bellydance ensemble.

17-Jan Sun Subversive films & Behind the Garage Series presents 1/17 BLAIR CRIMMINS & the Hookers ...(Atlanta,Ga)
"With a smile and a glint in his eye, Blair Crimmins entices listeners into his world. Songs jump with a 1920's gaudiness, reminiscent of tawdry, dangerous jazz. A multi-instrumentalist, he delivers off-kilter piano lines and rapid guitar strum, but tenor banjo, ukulele and accordion aren't out of the question. While devious lyrics can mirror the sinister Charlestons they accompany, Crimmins also has a grab bag of unjaded torch songs at his disposal, spotlighting the loneliness of a life spent in the shadows."
19-Jan Tue Indy MusicNite SISTA OTIS
New Orleans
You might have read about her in Rolling Stone. She's coming to the Gypsy! The "Original Good Time Girl," Sista Otis, is a gypsy with no home to call her own and no day job to fall back on, all she does is live, eat, drink and sleep the music. Her new album has gone Indie Gold with air play in 12 different countries & nationwide on college radio.

The Advocate named her one of the top Indie Artists to see LIVE in the U.S. *Strong with rhythm and addictive hooks, sassy, charming, smooth and raw in all the right spots. Classic elements reminiscent of the late 60's so familiar and warm that you'll feel like you've heard them before. *

23-Jan Sat The Brothers Marler (Athens,GA)
“The Bros. Marler’s musical style is a homogeneous mixture of the solo troubadour styles of Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, the power of Nirvana and Janes Addiction, the soul of Al Green and Marvin Gaye, the improvision of jazz and jam, psychedelic experimentation, and intricately woven harmonies, but it is always deeply rooted in folk, blues and country roots heritage.” ( Washington, Ga. newpaper ) The Bros. 25-Jan Mon Mystery Nite Brittany Shane (SF,CA)
Perhaps it’s her down-to-earth Midwestern charm and the fine sense of humor conveyed in her songs that make you wish you could step through your speakers and into a bar, where she’ll be waiting with a beer. The tunes reach out in all different directions. Punk rock kids, soccer moms and convicted felons can embrace the stuff with equal devotion, and we say that in a good way, of course. That is why Shane has been able to share stages over the years with such a varied array of artists (the Breeders, Indigo Girls, Stevie Nicks, Aimee Mann, Heart...)

26-Jan Tue $1 Sake Indy Nite w/
FIFTH NATION (Austin,TX) The duo’s philosophy can be captured in the story of the origin of their group name, Fifth Nation. In the dawn of the twentieth century, the great chief Hiawatha united six scattered Native American tribes into the Iroquois Confederacy, in order to bring peace and order to the Americas. The Mohawk Indians were a wise and self-sufficient tribe, skilled in growing their own food and building their own houses; Hiawatha recognized them as the Fifth Nation. Most of their music was very rhythmic & consisted primarily of drums& lively singing...Thus they were Fifth Nation.
