THE NC SMOKING BAN ?

yeah, well it was bound to happen eventually. The Gypsy has been expecting this for a few years now, so we've had a contingency plan just in case, and some interesting plans up our sleeves. We're not going anywhere, in case you were worried. We can't spill the beans in the meantime, but we are ready for the inevitable encroachment on our civil liberties happening on January 2, 2010... And if they thought smoking inside was bad, wait until they see what we have in store.

NEW! GYPSY MOBILE HOOKAH DOME

This year, the Gypsy has been moving beyond its walls to bring this unique experience to festivals, private events, weddings, and all types of wild events for some real Gypsy-style traveling adventure. We call it SHISHADEN.

Already having been showcased at several major music festivals around the Southeast US, Shishaden is headed to The Port City Music festival, the Trinumeral festival in Asheville, and soon to make its first appearance on the West Coast at upcoming events.

We're always looking for more talented artists with a desire for travel, and a willingness to work hard on a creative team to create some of the most unique, interactive, and downright Gypsified environments imaginable.

THE GYPSY GOES 100% original music

In an effort to more strongly support local, unsigned, and independent musicians, the Gypsy
has converted our music to 100% MP3 and internet radio, providing only original, unsigned, and independent music.

You may be curious to know that we ONLY play Cds from the artists who have played & submitted their CD to the GYpsy. In 5 years, we've amassed quite a collection of eclectic sounds for your enjoyment. ..............
Nationally recognized bands who have already made it, and are readily recognizable and familiar have no trouble gaining new audiences with their ubiquitous airplay. We at the Gypsy beleive that the best songs have yet to be introduced into the larger universe, so we're doing our part to give the indy guys their due.

IF you have an mp3 collection of funky, wild, interesting, or otherwise independent music, by all means, do feel free to drop a CD by the Gypsy for play!
Make sure the CD is labeled with the aritst's name, and myspace or webpage.
So if you're floating around myspace, and find a great unsigned independent act with downloadable songs, bring them to us!
dont forget to send a thank you to the act for making such great music, and let em know they'll be played at one of the most unusual spots around!

People have started converging here on a mellow sunday afternoon to play all kinds of games, so now its official. You will probably see a cribbage game, a D&D game, and various chess matchesfor starters.. including some Obscure games lying around like GO, and parchesi. Bring yours or jump into the mix.

POST FILM EXPERIMENTAL CHILLAX, with "BEHIND THE GARAGE" music series
BEyond The Garage, various ethereal artists, rounded up by AlliPoet are set to converge on the stage after the Subversive film WEEKLY to create ambient sounds, harmonized ether, and a little bit of obscure sound frequencies in to help you wind downthe weekend. Its just starting out, som come support it!

TUESDAYS ROCK AT THE GYPSY: INDY MUSIC NITE

Let' face it, Tuesdays in WIlmington tend to be pretty quiet. We wanted to give people a place to go to hear live indy tunes for next to nothing. Anyone doing $2 tuesdays hasn't tried our $1 Tuesdays. $1 Sake Shots all night. For the hookah crowd we've got $10 Bottomless hookahs all night long. This is how serious we are, folks. Every week, on Tuesday, you can hear some live indy music starting around 9 pM.

The Gypsy is one of a handful of Music Venues in town who regularly draw touring acts from Beyond this area. And here are just some of the upcoming Tuesday Night Entertainment lwe have in store for you! Support Performing artists, and come listen!
