-----National Hotel is a musical/theatrical organization specializing in the art of live performance. National Hotel and its members are strongly devoted to their global outreach program of freedom and discovery through musical celebration. Channelling ancient tribal rhythms, preciously metallic dreamscapes, and diversely fused melodies and arrangements, National Hotel delivers dramatic musical movements ranging from the transcendently hypnotic to the utterly alarming.-Based in the Highlands of Louisville, Kentucky and founded in the autumn of 2004, National Hotel has put as its primary focus sessions of composing and rehearsing hours of interactive material. These conjuring sessions have provided and continue to provide National Hotel's elusive members with time to experiment with instrumental alchemy. As well as the traditional rock band instruments such as drumkit, electric guitars, and bass guitars, National Hotel has also been incorporating state of the art synthesizers, a wide variety of ethno-acoustic percussives, field recordings, samples, digital and analog effects, saxophones, wind instruments, and the acoustic flamenco guitar.National Hotel has also completed two studio projects with the help of Logan Street Studios in Louisville. These projects, "The Legend Of The Non-Denominational Pyramid" (2006) and "A Handbook Of Observances And Antidotes" (2007), are a mere audio-glimpse at what National Hotel brings to their live shows. National Hotel is also currently working on compiling a live cd featuring shows from touring 8 U.S. states. Highly influenced by other fields of study such as astronomy, physics, geometry, mythology, mysticism, meditation, biology, and science fiction, National Hotel forges ahead with a guaranteed unique approach to musical formats and provocatively inspiring vibrations. Thank you for taking the time to read this "bio" and welcome to the International Hotel of Sound and Discovery. We definitely appreciate your attention and hope to provide you with a clever and resourceful outlet for entertainment and, possibly, enlightenment.

JACOB JOHNSON Played The Gypsy June 20, 2008
SONG: " Try"
ALUBM: Est 1986
RECORDED: 2007, by Jacob Johnson
* http://www.myspace.com/JacobJohnson
* Greenville, SC
Hailing from upstate South Carolina, Jacob Johnson is a one-of-a-kind solo acoustic performance artist who specializes in a style of guitar playing he calls "Neo-acoustic folk/funk". In his short career he has already shared the stage with the likes of The Steel String Theory, Dave Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds, and even funk maestro Robert Randolph. In live performances, his off-the-cuff sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek sensibility disarm the audience and leave them completely unprepared for the multilayered guitar masterworks he unleashes. Jacob thumps, taps, and slaps his acoustic guitar into submission, weaving a musical tapestry that usually climbs to sonic frenzy whilst never losing its balance or control. His lyrics, thoughtful and realistic, are delivered with the wry sort of charisma that makes you wonder if he isn’t just making it all up as he goes. And sometimes he is.

I just finished my "48 in 08" tour, which has been amazing, and amazingly exhausting. During the tour, I have played a show in every continental state, before landing in Louisville, Kentucky. In the process, I have been blessed to have been played on XM radio lately, and a bunch of college stations too. In the last year I have also been receiving some flattering reviews from All Music, Time Out, Flavorpill, etc. BILLBOARD even described my album as a "promising debut." Snazzy. I am grateful for my accolades, but nowhere near as grateful as I am to my friends and fans that have been supporting me, coming to shows, buying albums, putting me up, and giving me fruit as I walk out the door the next morning, for the next state.

Album release date was March 15th, 2008. Band is currently in the studio working on album number 2!
FROM: Nashville, TN.
Since January 2006, Happy Birthday Amy has been hard at work making progressive indie pop in the Nashville area. Fronted by vocalist/keyboardist, Amy Smith, Happy Birthday Amy is a trio with Dillon Smith on bass and various other instruments and Miles Cramer on the drums. Often sharing the stage with others, Happy Birthday Amy invites a revolving door of horn players to their world whom they affectionately refer to as , The Dirty Brassholes. Happy Birthday Amy strives with every live show to sound more professional, but also to give audiences what they crave: a great live show!
In March of this year the band self-released their first full-length record entitled "Sue." The record is a journey from start to finish and while this isn't a concept record so to speak, the songs definitely congeal and have a great sense of connection both lyrically and musically. Even from beginning of the record, listeners can hear the progressiveness of this band's ideas with the sensual percussive transition between tracks 1 and 2 performed by drummer, Miles Cramer. "Sue" contains a wide variety of indie pop songs that are arranged by the trio and include heavy instrumentation and strong composition. Husband and wife Amy and Dillon Smith work together to color the music using a wide variety of sounds and textures. Dillon, a multi-instrumentalist, composes skilled string and horn arrangements heard especially on tracks: "The Groom", "Disaster", and "When You Say", the closing track. After making the record, Happy Birthday Amy has adopted the term, "chamber pop," to denote the fullness of their arrangements but also dictate that these songs are at anyone's grasp. The band hopes over all that their music can be described as sophisticated without being contrived, full and beautiful, complicated and complex and a work of real musical progression.

Based in Boston, MA
Album " This Train's Not Goin' Slow"
Folk singer Chris Wilhelm has a voice that rings with a certain vulnerable sense of conviction. And indeed, this Boston-based singer/songwriter has seen a lot during his 16-year music career: In between his relocations from Hudson, New York to Albany and now to Boston, he has spent time busking for change in subway stations, singing open-mic nights in coffee shops, and altogether honing his delicate craft. His current songs reach a rare level of emotional urgency, steeped in a palpable sense of hope and understanding. He began his music career, he says, as a child of 10 in Hudson, NY, making his first guitar out of a piece of cardboard with strings drawn on with permanent marker, so he could play along with his favorite music. He made the decision to make music his primary focus after moving to Albany in 2000. But that childhood sense of innocent musical wonder hasn’t seemed to change over the years, as he is happiest to live his life simply: traveling around town-to-town spreading his message of breezy acoustic melodies that echo the best of early Bob Dylan and American blues and roots music. With a respectable roster of original songs and a self-released album, This Train’s Not Going Slow, under his belt, Wilhelm shows no signs of slowing down. He plays about five shows a month all around the Northeast.

"Outstanding Folk Artist of the Year" ~2008 Boston Music Awards
Named by the Boston Globe as a "Local on the Verge" for 2008, Miss Tess is a young, Boston-based performing songwriter. Aptly naming her style “Modern Vintage” , her music bridges eras and genres. True to the tradition, her vocals can soar or caress as she strums and picks her way through an array of styles, from ragtime, to blues; country, to swing. Tess writes songs with the folk sensibilities of a troubadour that engage roots-devotees and newcomers alike. A typical set conjures a cast of dreamers and lovers, down on their luck and charming their ways in and out of trouble, with familiar faces mingling in the crowd, courtesy of folks like Bessie Smith and Tom Waits—perpetual muses to her style.
Miss Tess is celebrating being named “Outstanding Folk Artist of the Year” at the December Boston Music Awards. The Folk part was a surprise but the award is much appreciated. Another small career breakthrough came from being booked on the 2008 Cayamo cruise with headliners Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett. This came about after she won the prestigious 27th Biannual Open Mic Shootout at Eddie’s Attic, Decatur, GA.

Based out of Vermont and Boston, MA ~ Hailing from the backwoods of Vermont's Connecticut River Valley, Pariah Beat plays a punk infused blend of blues, country and old time roots music.
"Pariah Beat turns swing, jazz, zydeco and bluegrass upside down, into a concoction of inebriated fun, hearty emotions and salt of the earth freshness. They take traditional accompaniments and make rowdy, down home fun out of them" - Bootleg Magazine, Wilmington, NC
"...Pariah Beat creates down and dirty party music that seems destined for the sole, but noble, purpose of fun." - Julie Bolcer, New Now Next
"If you mix punk rock guitar with gypsy-folk rock sensibilities (adding a squeezebox and fiddle) and a hell of a lot of ingenuity you get PARIAH BEAT. This group of story-tellers, formerly of Vermont, now call Jamaica Plains their home. This band is rocking to rave reviews and impressing audiences all around. This is a perfect case of old meets new meets Punk Rock. Awesome!" - Ryan's Smashing Life (Boston Blog)

Gypsy Sampler Song - Luck ~ Written by - Margo Price and Jeremy Ivey

Buffalo Clover is a four piece band formed in Nashville, TN. Lead by front woman, Margo Price, the group draws inspiration from the dying art of true roots music. They summon early forms of blues, folk, rock, Motown and gypsy styles combined with classic tones reminiscent of the 1960's.
At the heart of the music is song writing couple, Margo Price and Jeremy Ivey. Their songs are built around rough edged riffs and unique time changes. In an age where music is more about gimmicks and marketing than the actual songs themselves, Buffalo Clover is a needle in the hay. With tunes held strong by beat poetry and distinct, original melodies, this Indie band is on their way to start a new wave with a diverse underground following. Touring with what they call 'The Roven Circus'- their bandwagon consists of fire twirlers, old world magicians, clairvoyants, jugglers, painters, poets who are gearing up to perform.
With the release of their debut album, "Pearls to Swine" the band is making a tour across the states. Traveling from Boston to Portland, the self funded trip is allowing the group to do what they do best- entertain. The words found in their songs blend everything from strange story telling and imagination, to life in the underbelly of the lower middle class. Buffalo Clover's versatile style embodies all the lasting elements of revolutionary music.

After being discovered by his now music manager Rick Dellagatta (Former 3 time USA Freestyle Wrestling Champion), Maurice moved to Sparta, NJ where he honed in on his writing skills. Some of the most raved about songs, which will also be appearing on the Maurice Davis Band debut album came from this time period such as "Ladies Of Love", "Missing Children" and "Doorman".Many industry experts initially recognized Maurice as a phenomenal songwriter but feeling that compelling songwriting wasn't enough Maurice decided to not only write the best songs but also have the best band play them. While Maurice searched for a band, he played solo shows in New York City and the New Jersey Shore, playing such venues as the Hammerstein Ballroom, CBGS's and Baggot's Inn even performing on the Main Stage at the New York City Marathon. Ask Maurice how many shows they plan on playing this year and he'll tell you, "No days off. If I'm not playing with the band I can play solo acoustic shows. If I'm not playing tonight I better be promoting tomorrow night. I don't write poetry or songs or perform for the money, it's cause I love to do it. And if I can't go out and do something for the sake of loving it then I'm in the wrong business. If I wanted to be at home every night and every weekend I would've finished college. My band feels the same way and that's why we're successful. Funny thing is, we left college to play music and now we're back in college, playing music! Maurice also wrote "Missing Children" for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

I grew up on an island off the coast of Maine called Mount Desert Island. My home was very musical one and my dad played guitar and my mom sang and played piano in the living room and the organ at church. My dad was into the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and John Fahey, but the songs he played were more of a country-western nature and I remember him singing "hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin'" in our kitchen as my mom made dinner. Mom would play ragtime Scott Joplin tunes and sing ballads like "Blue Boyou" by Roy Orbison. Reluctantly at first, I learned to play guitar starting around age ten and through middle and high school learned a lot of folk tunes to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, John Fahey, and Dylan. In college I discovered jazz and became immersed in Miles Davis, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and all those greats. My main college gig was playing fiddle in bluegrass, celtic, and jazz bands and trying to be like Stephen Grapelli in jazz ensemble (never got quite that good). I also managed to spend a few years living and traveling abroad in Africa, Asia, and Australia. All the while I was writing songs and building up to a point where I might play them with other people in front of other people. When I graduated college I moved to Boston and started a band, that was four years ago...for more info on my "career stats" keep reading...///... Since releasing my debut record, "Passing Thru", in 2004 I've been touring a good deal with a band and solo. I self-released two EPs in 2005 and 2006 sold exclusively at shows and then started recording my second full-length with help from Stephen Brodsky (better known for his work in "Octave Museum" and "Cave In"). We recorded 14 songs in my rehearsal space & his during the course of 2006 and 2007; & Mixed by Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio in Brooklyn, NY in Jan.
